Dr. Aldebra Schroll, our consulting physician, is a leader in the field of palliative and hospice care and an invaluable member of our staff.

She, like many with knowledge of our work, currently advocates for choosing hospice earlier and more often in the case of terminal illness. To her and to many, this is because of the holistic approach of hospice care that focuses on enhancing patients’ quality of life.

Our staff spends time providing and connecting the aspects of the physical, social, and spiritual needs of the whole person. It is a collaborative approach where our professionals communicate between disciplines regularly so that the team has a complete picture of the patient’s care.

In an article she provided for the Journal of Palliative Care, Dr. Schroll states, “Hospice care allows me to spend time with the patients, using my skills of listening, a critical consideration when I chose to work in this area.” She also states, “I especially like the team-based model of care, sharing a mission for serving others. I also appreciate the approach to caring for mind, body, spirit.” To all of us at Butte Hospice, hearing and understanding patients’ stories and providing the best comfort care possible is what it’s all about.

“I am grateful to have found something that suits me better,” says Dr. Schroll in her concluding statements. We are also so incredibly grateful to have her and her commitment to our mission.
