Walking to End Alzheimer’s: Honoring Memories, Supporting Families, and Raising Awareness
September is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, a time to learn more about Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, recognize the individuals and families affected, and come together to support efforts toward a future with better understanding, treatments, and hope.
Every October, Butte Home Health & Hospice is proud to participate in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Chico, CA. We are walking to honor the memories, stories, and lives of the people who have been affected by Alzheimer’s and dementia including our patients, their families, our friends, and members of our community.
Walking for Those We Serve
For families living with Alzheimer’s or dementia, each day can bring both meaningful moments and new challenges. Changes in memory, communication, behavior, and independence can affect not only the individual but also the people who love and care for them.
As a home health and hospice organization, we understand the importance of meeting people where they are and providing compassionate, individualized support. Caring for someone with Alzheimer’s or dementia often involves a team of family members, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and community resources working together.
Every person has a story worth remembering. Every family deserves compassion and support.
Our participation in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s is one way we can show our support for those navigating these experiences.
The Importance of Alzheimer’s Awareness
Raising awareness helps create greater understanding around Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. It can also encourage families to learn about available resources, have important conversations about future care, and seek support when they need it.
Awareness is more than knowing the name of a disease. It is about recognizing the person behind the diagnosis and remembering that meaningful connections can continue throughout the journey.
A familiar song, a favorite meal, a family photograph, a comforting conversation, or simply sitting together can hold tremendous meaning.
Supporting Families Along the Journey
Alzheimer’s and dementia can impact the entire family. Caregivers may experience emotional and physical challenges as they balance everyday responsibilities with the needs of their loved one.
Seeking support early can help families better understand what to expect and identify resources that may help along the way.
Home health and hospice services can play an important role for eligible individuals and families, depending on their healthcare needs and goals of care. Our team works alongside patients, families, and caregivers to provide compassionate care and support in the comfort of home.
